About Toto
The band Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also well-known studio musicians who worked with Boz Scaggs at the time) and bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. The group's name was derived from a Latin word that translates to "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore every musical style.
The third album by Toto, Turn Back, was not a success in 1981. However, they bounced back with their fourth release, Isolation, which contained two songs that were hits, including the title song and Roseanna. The album and tour made them a household brand around the world.
After a brief break, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. The album is different from the ballads that were featured on previous albums, and features some heavy rock. It was their first platinum album in North America.
In the course of recording the fifth album The group loses its manager and is faced with financial problems. They decide to change their name and make a new album using an entirely new producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, replaces Fergie Frederiksen as the lead vocalist. Joseph is more natural as a frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a needed boost.
In 1999, the band release Mindfields and begins an extensive worldwide tour. After a few months in Europe they head to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a brief break, Toto resumes their recording and releases their first live album entitled Absolutely Live in 1993. This includes a cover version of Weezer's hit song Hash Pipe as a response to the band covering Africa on their recent tour. Toto's touring group is comprised by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.

The next year, Toto toured together with Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band. This was the last time that all original Toto members Toto were on stage together. The group broke up following this. Toto came back together for an event benefiting the ALS Foundation in 2010. to raise funds for the ALS Foundation. It was the first time that all of the original Toto members were on stage together in over 31 years. In addition to the original members, keyboardist Greg Tambu filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate filled in for Shem Von Schroeck.
